INTRODUCTION ============================================================================= Battletoads / Double Dragon is an awesome side scrolling beat-em up from Rare. Yes, that's right. The same people who made Goldeneye and Perfect Dark also made this game way back in the day for the NES. And it rocks too. If you do not have this game for your NES, then go out and buy a used copy somewhere, or get the ROM of it somewhere for your NES Emulator, because Battletoads / Double Dragon is a classic 2-D game that is STILL fun to play today, even with all of the 32, 64, and 128-bit systems around. Hard to believe they did this on an 8-bit system. =) *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* 2. Walkthrough ============================================================================= ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- LEVEL 1-2 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- First off, choose a character (Rash, Zitz, Pimple, Billy, or Jimmy). It really doesn't matter who you choose, other than the fact that Pimple is stronger than the others, but is slower overall. After you have chosen your character, begin your game. You'll start off on a spaceship cruising through space. Use the one-two combo to defeat your enemies (tap B a few times). Defeat the first two enemies, then grab the 1-Up on the small hill. Now wait for some more guards to enter the scene (some will come up from the side of the ship as a matter of fact.) Go up the second hill after killing the guards here (you can also hold B down to pick them up and then toss them at other guards...use this technique to grab the 1-ups you find along your journey.) Go up the next hill to find another 1-Up and some more enemies. Take the 1-Up, then move down the hill and crawl along the lower side of the ship to find another 1-Up on the side. Continue along the side to find some more 1-Up jars (BTW, not ALL jars have 1-Ups....some of them can have coins or points within them...I'll just call them jars in this walkthrough.) Climb back up the side of the ship and smash the next jar. Now you should encounter some flying robots. Avoid their fire, then grab them and swing them onto the ground until they blow up. This is by far the easiest method of destroying the robots. After you kill the first one, two more will emerge, so take out one of them, and then the other. Move along the ship after taking care of the robots. Eventually you will encounter more guards, some orange and some yellow. The orange ones can be a pain since it takes more than one combo to take them out. Take care of them, then move on to find a sub-boss. This boss is a weird hand thing that comes out of the fans in the side of the ship. Just wait until the hand attacks, and then dodge it. When it gets stuck in the ground, attack it. Kill it, then watch as some of the balls shoot out of the fans. Move along the path. Just past the hand you will find some more flying robots, only this time they're some orange robots. Kill them, smash the jar, then move along to the next set of fans. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- LEVEL 1-2 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Time to fight another hand creature. Repeat the same process as before to beat it. Kill it, then wait for the next hand to come out of the lower right hand fan. Defeat it to encounter the first boss of the game. Out comes a giant red, bald guy from the ship. He punches pretty hard, so watch out. A good strategy for him is to wait for him to approach you, then start punching before he gets near you, that way you will get some hits on him before he can touch you. Do this over and over until he kneels, then hit him once more to boot him into space. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- LEVEL 2-1 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Start off by defeating the first enemy that comes at you, then climb the back cage and smash the jar on the wall. Kill all 3 of the enemies that come out of the elevator, then move on, and smash the other jar that is on the wall. Hop down, and kill the guy that comes along, then the tall yellow robot that comes out of the elevator. Take the yellow rod that he leaves behind, and use it as a weapon. Now continue along the path. Kill the next set of enemies with your rod, then move on until you spot a guy in a room behind a glass window, tossing dynamite out at you. To defeat this foe, wait until he tosses a stick of dynamite at you, then quickly pick it up with B, then toss it off the right hand wall so it bounces back into his room. Do this 3 times to kill him. Once he is dead, enter the room he was in to take a ride down a level, and into level 2-2. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- LEVEL 2-2 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Exit the elevator, then defeat the enemies here. Now smash the jar on the ground, then climb the ladder to the left of the elevator and smash the other jar on the wall. Now continue on to the left. Wait for the 2 enemies to exit the elevator, then take care of them. Once this is done, climb up the ladder and smash the jar on the ceiling. Grab whatever is inside, then move along. Climb the next ladder near the elevators and smash this jar to pieces. Wait for the two yellow robots to exit the elevators, then defeat them and grab a yellow rod (i.e., their leg). Kill the enemies that come your way with the rod, then keep going left until you encounter another dynamite guy. Repeat the same process as you did with the first one, and do it 4-5 times to defeat him. Enter the elevator to ride down another floor and into level 2-3. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- LEVEL 2-3 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hop onto one of the hover bikes, and prepare for an awesome ride. At first you will encounter plenty of jars, so smash as many as you can. If you manage to smash every one of the jars in the first part, you will get a 1-Up. After this, you will have to dodge some obsticles like some bars, and some fences. Dodge them to get to the third area: Enemies. There will be some enemies that area also on some hover bikes as well. Just start kicking right when they come at you to kick them off their bikes. If you complete this portion, you will be treated to some more jars. After the jars, you will then have to dodge some more obsticles. Dodge them, and at the end of the ride you will have to face the level 2 boss, which is some weird rat thing. Just like the first boss, this guy is easy. He'll jump at you (or pounce), and punch at the same time. Just start punching before he gets near you to get some easy shots in. After a while, he'll start to jump into the air and land on you. Just watch the shadow to see where he lands, then attack him when he least expects it. Repeat this over and over and over again to defeat this rat. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- LEVEL 3-1 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kill the two females (hey they have whips!) that exit the elevators as you start this level. Keep going right to find a jar on top of a block. Smash it, then continue forward. Watch out for the falling steel bars. Get close enough for them to drop, then move out of the way of them. Now just run underneath them as they rise. Use this strategy for all of the dropping beams throughout this level. Continue forward until you reach a yellow, moving beam on the ceiling. Wait for it to move close to one of the raised areas, then hop on it and then you should be hanging off it. Now just tap B to destroy it. Use this technique for every one of these lasers in this level. Move along to find another jar. Smash it, then keep going. When you reach a giant drop off with an arrow, then use B to use the whip and swing your way down the drop. Kill any birds you find here, and destroy the blue laser at the bottom. Smash the jar, then wait for some of the chicks with whips to exit the elevator. Take care of them all, then move on until you reach another point where you have to use your whip. Use it, and swing across the drop off to the other side. Smash the jar here, then destroy the 2-3 yellow lasers on the ceiling. Keep going right, smash the jar, then take care of the next two chicks. Move along and avoid the two blue dropping beams as you go. Now at the end, use your whip and rappell down the side of the wall, all while avoid- ing the electric drills. At the bottom, swing towards the blue laser to the right. Destroy it. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* 5.
