Contact/Legal Information ============================================================================= I. Introduction ============================================================================= Ikari III The Rescue is the third game in the Ikari Warriors trilogy. This was released in the arcades and ported to the NES. Ikari Warriors 1 was military combat with guns and grenades. Ikari Warriors 2 was the same thing only you went to an alien planet. Ikari Warriors 3 is not the same thing. In fact, for some reason you have given up guns and decide that fists are the way to go. Either the Ikari Warriors are really brave or really dumb for doing this. Anyway, everyone should be able to finish this game on his/her first try because you get unlimited continues. Therefore there shouldn't be a need for this guide. However, this guide was not just written to help people finish the game. It was written to help people beat it without continuing (or dying even). Before anyone points it out, Paul and Vince's colors are reversed in this game (Paul was red in Ikari Warriors 1 & 2). This guide is intended for use with the NES version only. It is also the third of my Ikari Warriors guides covering the series. ============================================================================= II. FAQ HISTORY ============================================================================= Version 1.00 (02/23/03) [53.8k] Initial release ============================================================================= III. STORY ============================================================================= (from instruction manual) It is the end of the 20th century. A worldwide economic recession wreaks havoc with the nation and the planet. The impending threat of anarchy has given rise to a secret vice organization called 'Crime Ghost.' Dangerously poised to take over the world with its diabolic strategy, 'Crime Ghost' has infiltrated every country simultaneously. There is one President who has initiated a plan to wipe out the association, but now his home has been attacked and his daughter Elise abducted. A letter has arrived demanding that he resign his powerful position within a number of days, or else his beautiful Elise will be executed in a most unpleasant manner. The letter is signed 'Faust', the notorious mastermind of Crime Ghost. The president knows to whom he must turn. The President has summoned two men known as Paul and Vince, the incredible Ikari Warriors. Now, YOU become Paul and Vince. You must go to the enemy hideout, rescue the lovely Elise, fight Crime Ghost, and destroy them all. To do this, you will use your undersea scuba tactics; your guerilla fighting power with machine guns and grenades; and your own brute strength, together with your superior Martial Arts skills, performing kicks, round-house kicks, jump kicks, punches, and more. Ikari Warriors, save the world from chaos! Now! ============================================================================= IV. CONTROLS ============================================================================= Up : move up Down : move down Left : move left Right : move right B : punch, use items that you pick up, fire gun A : round-house kick, throw enemy (while in water only) Select : select two player game, show current score/lives remaining Start : start game, pause/resume game A+B : jump kick (can also use D-pad during jump kick) Punches do the least damage but are easy to attack with. WALKTHROUGH ============================================================================= This walkthrough will guide you through the entire game. It is possible to go through the game without dying. My strategy is designed to guide you through without dying once. You can choose to try your own strategy at any time. Be aware that I can't guarantee that my strategy will work if you don't follow it entirely to the letter. The two player game is the exact same as the single player except that the screen will not scroll forward unless both players move up. The strategy will remain unchanged. Use as much/little as you need. Helpful Advice -------------- You do not have to fight everyone. Some enemies will not chase after you. It may be wise to let these enemies walk off the screen. The only time that you need to defeat every enemy on the screen is when you can no longer scroll the screen further. I will try to fight a reasonable amount of enemies but I won't go out of the way to take them all out unless it's necessary. The enemies in the game can walk through obstacles in their way like walls so keep this in mind as you fight. Enemies will either stay and fight or run away. The ones that stay and fight have a spot that they always run back to. Do not stand near that spot or you will get hit repeatedly. Act 1 ===== "Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the President?" Sorry, wrong game. What I meant to say was, "Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the President's daughter?" If you are, then let's go. Your tank gets destroyed by enemy missiles. They'll pay for it...with their lives. First, I'm going to use punches exclusively (press B button) throughout the entire game. Your roundhouse kick (press A button) is worthless. It has less range than the punches and you tend to miss with it a lot. Jump kicks will be used sparingly. Head up and you'll meet your first victims. Give them a face full of your fists and they'll drop dead. It's sad how fast these grunts can die. Get the heart afterwards. Now go up and you'll see another group of soldiers. The right soldier will try to show off with his jump kicks. Just let him be and kill the other two. Now get the heart. Go up and more soldiers come out. The lead soldier will use jump kicks. He'll fail to hit you in most cases. Keep punching to guarantee that he misses. You will kill the other soldier instead. Get the heart and go up. The next group of soldiers appears. The first soldier will try a jump kick and then follow up with a roundhouse kick. Get out of his way and he'll walk past you. Then move up and take out his three buddies. Go up and you'll see a W. There will be soldiers waiting for you. Do not rush up or you'll get ambushed. Here's what to do. First you should see a soldier to the right of the W. Get under him and approach slowly. He'll rush out at you. Quickly give him four punches to finish him off. Then go left until you are below the soldier to the left of the W. Move up and he'll charge at you. Punch him out as well. Now there should only be one soldier left. Do not attack him yet. Stay to the left side and slowly go up until you see a soldier appear from the south. This guy would have ambushed you if you had fought the other soldier first. Now the bottom soldier is a tough guy. His moves consist of a double jump kick and roundhouse kicks. He will take 9 punches to kill. After he is dead, go up and take out the other soldier. I suggest using a jump kick on him to avoid getting sucker punched. Then get the W and heart. Now you can move the screen again. Follow the path right to find a river. You can not kick while in the water. You get to throw enemies by pressing the A button. Throwing them is not effective so I would stick with punches instead. Head upstream and you'll run into a group of soldiers. Standard punches will take them out. Continue up and you'll see the river widens into a bay. Soldiers come at you from the top. There is a soldier to the left that is armed with grenades. Stay in the mouth of the bay and punch out the soldiers first. Then stay to the right and go up to face another wave of soldiers. Kill them all. Now you can go left to kill the grenade soldier or just skip him. I choose to skip him because the grenades that he tosses will kill you with one hit. Now continue heading upstream. More soldiers come from the top. They won't do anything. One soldier will come out from behind you. Quickly move down and kill him off first. Then go up. Two soldiers will try to ambush you. Kill the bottom one first. Then kill the top one. Keep moving forward. Soldiers will swim towards you but they won't attack or anything. Pick up the heart along the way. The river then widens into a bay again. You should spot a soldier on the rocks to the right. Get close enough and he'll attack you. Two soldiers will fire shots from the left side. Stay to the far right to avoid them. Now quickly punch to kill the other soldier. Head up the middle of the river. Another wave of soldiers appears. These soldiers will attack you unlike the other ones that you've seen in the water. Stand and punch away until they're all dead. Go up and two soldiers try to ambush you again. Kill the bottom one first. Then the top one. Now slowly move up and you'll see three soldiers just standing at the top. Stop moving after you see them and move to the far left side. Slowly move up again until you see three more soldiers come out. The screen will stop moving so you need to kill everyone. Kill the bottom one first. Then kill the top two. Try to stay at the very bottom to avoid getting double teamed. Just stand down there and punch away. You'll nail both soldiers with your punches. They will each take 6 punches to kill. Now you can kill the three soldiers that were standing around. They'll jump kick towards you when you get close enough. Don't fight all try at once because they will pulverize you. Take each one alone and never turn your back on them because they can repeatedly punch you to death if you get careless. Go up after they are all dead. More soldiers appear but they aren't a threat. Kill them and move on. The game will experience some slow down in the next area so bear with it. Two soldiers rush out from the left. You have two options here. You can take the cheap and easy way or the fair, but hard way. Read on for the cheap and easy way. Skip to the next paragraph for the fair way. The cheap and easy way is to stay to the right side and just keep going up. Do not kill any of the soldiers. You should have 4 soldiers chasing after you by now. Keep heading up and do not stop for anything. Stay in the middle and use jump kicks to avoid getting hit by any soldiers that you may encounter. Since you have so many soldiers chasing you, most of the enemies that would normally appear in the area will not be able to. Keep going until you can no longer scroll the screen up. You should have a mob of soldiers behind you. Quickly turn around and punch rapidly to defeat everyone. Then head up to fight the boss. Ok, here's how to do it the fair way. You'll see an oil drum by the crates to the right. Go up and walk over the drum to automatically pick up and throw it. The explosion will kill everyone. Now go up the middle and five soldiers appear, three from the top and two from both sides. Quickly jump kick through the trio from the top. Then go up. Stay to the left so that you are under the shadows. The two soldiers near the crates will rush out and punch you if you get close so stay away. They each take a few punches to kill. Anyway, you'll get attacked from the north. Just stand and punch away. The first soldier is the toughest of the bunch and requires a few punches before going down. Now head up and be careful. A lot of soldiers rush out around you and you need to punch and jump kick quickly if you are going to make it without getting hit. Go up and you should see red scaffolding running across the screen above you. Go to the far right side and head up. You'll run past a grenade soldier to the left. There's a heart near him but it's not worth it unless you are really near death. Head up and you'll see a heart. Suddenly you are attacked by three oil drum soldiers. They will toss them at you. Do not get caught by the explosions or you will die. Quickly jump kick each one to scare him away. They will attack you only if they toss the drums at you. Get the heart afterwards. Head up and you'll see three soldiers on top of the crates. There is a heart in the area but don't get it just yet. Kill off the soldiers first. Fight them one on one to avoid getting mauled. Then grab the heart and head up to fight the boss. Boss: Armored Tank You'll get a machine gun to use as indicated by a bullet icon next to your life meter. You have infinite ammo so go nuts. Try not to die because you will automatically run up to the tank after you reappear. Move back to avoid getting killed again after your invulnerability wears off. The tank has a relatively simple attack pattern. First, it will move around sideways and fire small shots out. Don't let these shots fool you because they will explode with grenade impact after they travel a short distance. Now the tank will try to run you over. After that, the tank will open up in the center and fire out a triple shot. It will fire two rounds of the triple shots before closing up and repeating the pattern from the beginning. Anything that the tank does will kill you with one hit. Here is how to defeat it. First, you can avoid getting run over by staying at the very bottom of the screen. The downside to this is that you can't hit the tank with your bullets from this far away. You can also get hit by the smaller shots' explosions so this is not recommended. Avoiding the tank should be done by moving sideways to avoid it as it comes at you. You can also just do a standing jump kick but be careful not to land on the tank though. To actually hurt the tank, you will need to attack it while its center is exposed. You can attack the tank by getting in front of it but this requires you to dodge the triple shots. You can dodge both the triple shots and the smaller shots by doing jump kicks. Then fire away after you land. Now jump again to avoid the second volley of triple shots. The easier way to attack the tank is to stand it the side of it after it opens up and fire away. You won't get hit by the triple shots. Just be sure to move away after the tank closes up. Avoid the tank until it opens up again. Then resume attacking. The tank will be defeated after you hit it enough times. Act 2 ===== Head up and you'll see a trio of jump kicking soldiers. Move to one side and let them leave. Go up and you'll see regular soldiers. Just punch them to death. Watch out for one of them because he will circle around and attack you from behind. Stay in the center and get the heart afterwards. Defeat the two soldiers that come at you from the top. Then turn around and kill the middle soldier from the bottom. Do not move left or right. The two remaining soldiers at the bottom both have machine guns. Let them fire a shot and retreat. Then go up and two soldiers try to ambush you from behind. Take them out and move to one side. Head up until the screen stops scrolling. Three soldiers run down the middle. Avoid them because they will try to circle around you to attack. Let them run off the screen by staying far to one side. Now two more soldiers attack you from both the top and bottom. The bottom one comes out quickly and is your biggest threat because he uses fast kicks and a double jump kick. He will use jump kicks whenever you are far away so stay near him and punch away. He'll take 9 punches before dying. The top soldier only uses punches and he shouldn't be much of a threat to you. Just don't let him interfere while you are punching the bottom soldier out. Get the heart after you kill them both. You'll now see two soldiers on the metal containers to the left and a grenade soldier above and to the right. You can take either path but it's easier to go right. Just make sure that you jump kick to avoid the grenades that get thrown. If you do take the left path just be careful to avoid getting caught in repeated punches by both soldiers. They can kill you if you aren't careful. Get the hearts and then go all the way to the top of the screen. Go right and a soldier will do a running punch from the right. He will pass by you. Kill him after he passes by. Now you should see some more soldiers that are just standing around. These guys will use running punches as you approach them. Hug the north side of the screen and you'll safely pass by. Go up and get the W. Then kill the soldiers that appear. Head up along the right side now. You should see a soldier run out. Kill him. Then three more come out. Run back down and only one follows you. He will use kicks and jump kicks on you. Take him out one on one and then grab the first heart if you need life. Now kill the other two soldiers. Don't worry, they are pushovers compared to the one that you just beat up. They also won't follow you so you can try a hit and run tactic. Get the other heart now. Then continue up. Defeat the first group of soldiers. Now stay to one side. To the left is a grenade soldier while a machine gun soldier is to the right. Defeat the grenade soldier first. Then take out the machine gun soldier. Head up and you'll see a W. Three blue ninjas will begin to materialize. Quickly move past them and to the left before they finish materializing. Now head up and the screen stops moving. The red ninja, Suohmaru, will materialize. He is very strong. He will throw five ninja stars that spread out after appearing. Then he disappears and reappears in another location. He'll throw more ninja stars. He repeats this pattern of appearing and throwing ninja stars. What you want to do is to run up to Suohmaru as he is materializing. Now this is one case where kicking actually is useful. Stand next to Suohmaru and keep kicking after he appears. You will hit him a few seconds after he appears. He will then disappear again. Chase after him and kick him again. Try to stay in the center of the screen so that you can more easily reach every spot on the screen. Try to stay near Suohmaru because he will only throw stars if you are standing far away from him. He will do nothing if you stand near him. If he appears too far away then do not chase after him because you will just get hit by the ninja stars. Just stay away and move to avoid the stars as they come at you. Suohmaru takes 6 or 7 kicks to kill so this fight will take longer than most. Head to the top of the screen after you kill the red ninja. Two more soldiers appear. Stay at the top and punch them both to death. Then go left. You'll see two machine gun soldiers. Get out of their line of fire and then run up next to them. Kill them both and then go up. Stay to the left side and kill the three soldiers that appear. Then run up until you reach the metal containers. A lot of machine gun soldiers appear. Don't panic. They will all miss you if you are on the left side. Just watch out for one soldier that will attack you from the bottom. Now go up. Three more soldiers attack you. You'll notice that one of them runs faster than the other two. That one will use jump kicks on you and will be your biggest threat. The other two are weaker but still powerful nonetheless. Try to get them caught in a flurry of punches. Continue forward and kill everyone in your way. You will come across three stationary soldiers. Stay to far right side and head up until you are directly to the right of all three soldiers. The right one will have charged at you as you headed up but he'll miss. Now face left and punch away. You'll catch the soldier and beat him to death. Repeat the tactic for the other two now. Then go up after you beat them. A machine gun soldier appears. You can ignore or kill him if you want. Then go up and don't get the heart yet. Let the two soldiers that appear walk away before getting it. Now go right and you'll see more soldiers standing around. They will use running punches when you get near. Stay by the top of the screen and head right. You'll pass by all of them without getting hit. Go up and kill the soldier that rushes out at you. Go up and you will see more soldiers standing around. They all need to be killed before you can move on. Fight each one by himself so you don't get ganged up on. There are two hearts so you should be able to win without any problems. Go up and kill the soldiers that rush at you from the top and bottom. Then head up and you'll get attacked by four soldiers. Kill the top two first. The bottom two are stronger and will take many hits to kill. I recommend that you kill the top left one first and then move right to kill the top right one next. Doing this helps to avoid getting backstabbed by the bottom two soldiers. Then go up and kill the two soldiers that are standing around. Now you will be attacked by land mine soldiers. These guys will drop land mines on the ground. They will detonate after a short while so stay away from them. I suggest that you jump kick your way through the land mine soldiers. There will be four in total. Now soldiers rush out from the right side. Just stay to the left until they walk off the screen. Then go to the right side. Head up and three soldiers run down at you. Jump kick to avoid getting hit. Then let them run away. Go up slowly and one more soldier comes out. Let him walk off the screen as well. Move up some more and two more soldiers will rush out. Jump kick to avoid getting hit and let them leave. Now to the left are four soldiers just standing around. The rightmost one should have been attacking you by now. Let each one feel your fists and go up to fight the boss. Boss: Todd Manor This guy likes mines and he likes them a lot. He will throw them everywhere. He will also use jump kicks and punches although he mainly uses jump kicks and mine tosses. Beating him is as easy as walking up to him and punching his lights out. You should be able to get him caught in a rapid flurry of punches. Of course, you need to watch out for his mines but that shouldn't be a problem. Do not attack him if you see the mines starting to detonate because their blast radius is large. You can use jump kicks to avoid getting hit by his jump kicks. Todd will die after 16 punches. Act 3 ===== Head up and you'll be attacked by knife men. Jump kick your way through. Don't stop jump kicking. Keep jump kicking until the screen stops scrolling. Don't worry about getting hurt because there are hearts that you can get. You'll fight three more knife men at the top. If you didn't move too fast up here, you should see an oil drum in the center. Use it to kill everyone off. Head up and you'll see soldiers with their hands raised up. Some are carrying other soldiers. These soldiers can pick up and throw you. I suggest that you use jump kicks here because the soldiers can usually throw you as you punch. You will basically jump kick the soldiers, run a little bit, and then turn around and jump kick in the other direction. You'll need to do this several times before you finish off all of the soldiers. Head up and you'll see soldiers lying on the ground. These soldiers will start doing standing jump kicks if you get near them. You can defeat them by jump kicking them. You don't have to though so stay on the left side and just walk all the up until the screen stops. Jump kick anyone that gets in your way as you head up. Now defeat all the soldiers on the screen. You will fight fewer enemies if you rushed up here. Otherwise you may wind up fighting around 10 enemies or so. Head up afterwards. Remain on the side of the screen. You'll encounter jetpack soldiers. These guys will be firing machine guns. They will explode if you kill them. The explosion will kill you if you get caught in it. If you want to fight them anyway, use only jump kicks. Watch out for their shots too. Since it's highly likely that you will die if you fight them, just stay on the far left and wait until all the soldiers fly off the screen. They'll take a few shots before flying away so be patient. Head up into the water. You'll soon come across four soldiers. Be careful because the bottom two soldiers throw grenades. It is vital that you get out of the water as quickly as possible to avoid them. Then ignore the grenade soldiers and worry about the other two. Take them out and then kill off the grenade soldiers. Run up and four soldiers will start jump kicking across the screen from the left. Ignore them and jump kick all the way to the top of the screen. Two other soldiers will appear. Get to the top, turn around, and punch the two soldiers to death. Then move all the way to the left side. Head up until you enter the water. Stop halfway up in the water. Now soldiers come out from the north. Just stay on the left side and punch away. They should walk over and get hit by your fists. Normally they would be doing jump kicks and other deadly moves but since you are over to the side, they have to move diagonally over to get you. This prevents them from using more deadly moves on you. Finish off everyone that shows up and then go up. You'll see two 1-ups that you can get. Then you'll see three soldiers come out. These are boomerang soldiers. They will throw boomerangs that will circle around before coming back. You will die if the boomerangs hit you so jump kick out of the way. It shouldn't have to come to that because you can punch all three out before a single boomerang is thrown if you act fast enough. Go up and you'll see three soldiers run off to the right. Follow them to the right and go up until you can no longer scroll the screen. You'll now fight soldiers that throw rocks. Let them throw their rocks. Dodge the rocks and let the soldiers run away. There will be two soldiers without rocks if you ran up here fast enough. Kill them and move on. If you were slow getting up here, then you may have to fight up to four soldiers. You can also throw the rocks on the ground by walking over them. Go up and get the heart afterwards. Head up and you'll encounter more rock soldiers. Do not let the rocks hit you. Jump kick nonstop to avoid them. You will soon come across a split in the path. Throw the rock on the ground. Then take the left path. Fighting the enemies here is entirely optional so it's up to you. I would avoid them in order to stay alive. Now head up and get the heart. A soldier rushes at you from the north. Jump kick through him and keep moving up. Another soldier will attack you afterwards. Jump kick through him as well. Then you'll see a soldier on the ground. Ignore him and go right. The north passage will be raining tons of rocks down. Just jump kick your way up through them. You'll fight more soldiers with rocks. Jump kick through these guys as well. Get the heart and the path splits again. Take the right path because the soldier there just does standing jump kicks. Jump kick through him and head up to fight the boss. Boss: Brothers Cheng While it looks like there is only one at first, the other will show up a few seconds later. The Brothers Cheng are armed with sword and shield. They fight separately. One will stand around while the other goes after you. The brothers attack with their sword. They can also spin around while swinging the sword. Stay away when that happens because you cannot hit them. They also have a ground stomp that doesn't seem to do much other than to intimidate you. The last move they can do is to jump in the air but that is nothing more than a fancier jump kick. To beat the brothers, you need to always be on the move. Use jump kicks to hurt the brothers in the beginning. If you get lucky, you can catch one of them in a barrage of punches. This usually happens when one of them is walking around. Just focus on one brother. Do not forget that you can use your jump kicks defensively to get out of a tight situation. As long as you keep the brothers from double teaming you, they won't stand a chance. If you see a brother running at you, do not hesitate to run away because the brothers are especially deadly when they work together as a team. They should go down after 13 punches each. Act 4 ===== This level is entirely underwater. You'll be armed with a machine gun. Don't worry, it has unlimited ammo. You can't kick so don't bother using the A button for this level. This is possibly the easiest and most fun level in the game. This level will be a walk in the park for anyone who has played shooting games before. It will still be easy for those who don't play shooting games. One more thing to note, you will die if you touch any enemy in this level. Specific strategy for this level is unnecessary so I'll focus on general strategies. All you need to do is to keep pressing the B button the entire level. The scuba divers fire shots out but they can be avoided as easily as avoiding the machine gun soldiers' shots. There are diamonds that you can pick up along the way. They're all worth 1,000 points each. Do not feel obligated to get every diamond because some are placed in spots designed to lure you to your death. It's up to you to decide if it's worth risking your life for 1,000 points. Try to stay in the center of the screen. The center gives you maximum flexibility in avoiding your enemies' shots. I use a tactic that I call "the sweep." The tactic is basically what it sounds like. You will be moving left and right around the center of the screen while firing the entire time. This will comb most of the screen and kill a large majority of the enemies that appear. Also be on the look out for holes in the walls on either side of the screen. Spiked depth charges will emerge from these holes. They will kill you if you touch them. You'll fight the boss after you have passed a total of 28 diamonds. Boss: Aquarius This underwater boss will fire harpoons at you. He has a few attacks. The first is to swim around in a sideways "8" pattern and fire harpoons. The second attack is to do a quick dashing punch across the screen. He will use this move if you swim next to him. The third attack that he has is to summon depth charges to come down at you from the north. He will use this move occasionally. Beating Aquarius is very easy if you move around the screen in a clockwise motion. Never swim past Aquarius because you can only fire upward. Just stay southeast of Aquarius. Fire away continuously and he will swim right into your shots. This will also have the effect of slowing his rightward movement down a lot. Move slowly over to the right when he moves so that you remain southeast of him. Aquarius will quickly swim to the right after you hit him enough times. Swim to the left when he does this. Watch out for any harpoons that he might have shot out. Then north again after you are at least half the screen's distance away from Aquarius. You will pass Aquarius's left side which will cause him to do his dash punch over to you. Continue swimming north as he is coming over to you. Then swim in a counterclockwise motion after you have gotten out of his way. You should now be southeast of him. If not, then just move around until you are. Then resume your firing. Repeat this cycle until he dies. Act 5 ===== Head up and you'll see a blue W. Get it and you'll get a machine gun. Choose your targets wisely because you only have 10 shots. Also, remember how you can use jump kicks to avoid enemy bullets? Well the enemy can also jump kick to avoid your shots so keep that in mind as you proceed. Now use your newly acquired firearm to kill the middle machine gun soldier of the trio that come from the top. Wait for the two on the side to leave. Then get the heart above. Head up and a bunch of soldiers come down. Don't waste ammo on them. Jump kick them instead. Then go up and get the heart. Some machine gun soldiers and normal soldiers will attack you. You only need to worry about the machine gun soldier to the left that fires shots to the right. Ignore everyone else except for that soldier as you head up. Jump kick over his line of fire. Then head up. You should have between two to four soldiers chasing behind you. Move northwest until you are next to a metal container on the left. Then turn around and jump kick your pursuers. You should see two machine gun soldiers to the right. Now slowly move up. You should spot a stationary soldier to your north. Move close enough so that you can shoot him. Then move up and two soldiers will attack you from the left and right sides. Give both a taste of hot lead. Then turn your attention to the machine gun soldiers. Give them a shot or two. Then move up. You'll see three soldiers running off to the right. Then two other soldiers come out from the openings above and attack. Fill them both with lead if you still have ammo left. Otherwise a jump kick will do. Then go right and you'll get some more ammo. Now you will want to save all your ammo in the next part. You should have spotted the heart to the north. Grab it and do not stop. Head diagonally to the northwest. Soldiers will rush out of the doors to the right the moment you grab the heart. Jump kick your way through any that get in front of you. Leave the rest behind you. If all goes well, you should have five or more soldiers chasing after you. The more that chase you, the better it will be. The only downside will be that due to the number of enemies on the screen, the game will suffer slowdown problems. Bear with it and just keep heading up. There will be many machine gun soldiers in the area so stay out of their line of fire. If it looks like you are about to get shot at, then do a quick jump kick. This move will save your life more times than you can count. You'll soon reach the end of the building and find yourself in desert again. Your pursuers should still be tailing you. Quickly turn in the opposite direction and kill them all with one quick jump kick. Now head up and you'll see Jason. No, it's not our hockey mask wearing friend but rather a guy swinging a ball and chain. Now remember the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark? No? Well anyway, there was a scene in the movie where a guy was swinging swords around and Indiana Jones just shot him dead. That's what you are going to do here to Jason. One shot and he'll be deader than the crowd at an XFL game. If you don't have ammo then use punches. Jason will swing his ball and chain around in a clockwise pattern starting at the 9 o'clock position. Sneak up around him and get him caught in a flurry of your punches. Then shoot/kill the other soldiers in the area. Head up and it will be revenge of the knife men. A lot of them will swarm out. Just quickly make a path through them by jump kicking your way north. You'll eventually reach a point where the screen stops scrolling. Now you have to turn and fight. Shoot the knife men if you still have ammo. Otherwise you will need to run down to one edge of the screen and punch away. Do not let any knife men get behind you or you're dead meat. Don't be afraid to jump kick and retreat if the battle is going badly for you. The knife men will try to jump over you so be ready to move to a different location if you see this happening. You'll need to kill 7 knife men before you can proceed further. Go left and follow the path around the corner where more knife men await. Slowly move up and two knife men roll out at you. Take them down. Then you'll see two more knife men standing above. Go up and take out each one with your punches. Go up and you'll need to kill some more knife men before you can proceed. Now the next part involves fighting your way through the rest of the mountain. This means fighting through like 30 knife men. You can either take them all out one by one and really rack up the points or just run/jump kick through them without stopping. There is a heart along the way to help out. I choose the easy way and run/jump kick through. Just keep jump kicking to avoid getting stabbed by like 5 knife men. You'll eventually break through and find yourself back in the desert. Above you will be a heart which I'm sure you will need. Then head up until you fight the boss. Boss: Armored Train This armored locomotive has two attacks. The first is to fire shots from the turret mounted on the train. Don't let the shots' small size fool you. They will detonate with a nice sized blast radius. The second attack comes from bladed discs that fly out from the two circular openings to the left of the turret. They can come out in any direction although they tend to move vertically. The train itself will be moving back and forth the entire time. Here's how to win. First, you will be moving continuously during this battle. If you stop moving, then make it brief because you will be a goner if you stay in one spot for too long. Second, you need to be able to synchronize your movements with the turret's firing rate. The turret will fire out two shots before taking a brief pause. Get a feel for the timing of these shots so you can plan ahead on where to be standing. Give yourself extra room to compensate for the train's sideways motion. Now to deal with the bladed discs, you need to move sideways primarily to avoid them. Occasionally you may need to move up and down to get out of their way but this is rare. Jump kick if you really want to be on the safe side. Now for the hard part. You must stay in the top half of the screen near the tank. The reason is that standing any lower will get you killed by the turret shot's blasts. With that in mind, you will be firing at the turret. That is the train's only weak point. Try to move along with the train so that you are always on one side of the turret. Never stand in front of the turret unless you have a death wish. Be especially careful when you pass by the turret. Jump kick past it to ensure that you don't die. You will not have much time to get your shots off. Firing two shots as the turret passes by you will be considered successful in this battle. The idea is to not get greedy and fire away like a madman because you will die if you try. Take your time and settle for one or two shots here and there. The train's turret will fire more shots out (up to 4) after you do enough damage to it. Be extra careful to not be in the way when it fires more shots. The train is not meant to go down easily. This is an endurance battle because it will take 128 shots to win. Act 6 ===== You've rescued Elise. Now it's time to escape. You'll see a green airplane fly past you in the beginning. That is your ticket to freedom but you'll need to fight your way over to it. Elise will be following you the entire level. Don't worry, she cannot get hit or be killed. Now head up. You'll see hearts and soldiers. Don't waste your time on these privates. Just keep going up. Jump kick your way through all opposition until the screen no longer scrolls. Try to get enemies to chase after you if you can. Watch out for grenade soldiers and oil drum soldiers. The screen will stop moving when you spot a W to the left. Now you need to take out the enemies. There will be three soldiers to the top right. Ignore them for now because they won't do anything until you get near them. Focus instead on the two soldiers from the south side. Punch them to death before you do anything else. Then slowly approach each stationary soldier and kill them separately. Watch out because one of them will just do jump kicks in one spot. Go right afterwards. Now you have knife men to deal with. Head up until you can't go up any further. There will be a heart in the area. Save it until you need it. Now work on the knife men starting with the one near the top first. Then take out the one below the heart. Kill the one near the plane last. Then get the heart if you haven't already done so. Head up and some soldiers rush out at you. Jump kick through them until you reach the top of the screen and can go no further. There should be around five soldiers to kill. Take each one out starting from the top. You will work your way down to the heart behind the crates. Some of the soldiers attack by running a circle around you so be ready to turn around and punch them after they circle around. One of them will only use jump kicks. Give him a taste of your jump kicks. Then get the heart. Go up and you'll see two paths to take. Go up the left side. Now to the left is a strange looking mine. That is a shrapnel mine. What it does is to spread out five red shrapnel after exploding. Each piece of shrapnel will result in its own explosion. Just run up to the top of the screen and wait. The mine will detonate and the shrapnel will miss you entirely. There will now be only one soldier on the screen. Take him down and then get the heart afterwards. Now go to the far right side. Then head on up. Stay to the right as much as possible the entire time. This will let you pass by all the enemies without getting hit. You will eventually reach a chain link fence with three soldiers guarding the opening. The bottom two will jump kick nonstop. Approach the trio from the south. One will rush at you. Punch him dead. Then jump kick through the two remaining soldiers. Head up to fight the boss. Boss: Faust It's time to fight the boss of Crime Ghost. He is also the final boss. His attacks consist of punching you, kicking you, and throwing you. That is all he does. Did I mention that his punches and kicks do anywhere from one third to one half of your life and his throw range is greater than your punch range? Also, he moves a lot faster than you do. Beating Faust is fairly easy. You can try to jump kick him but he'll usually throw you as you are landing from your jump kick. The best way to kill Faust is to catch him with your punches and then punch away until he dies. It won't be easy to punch him though. The best time to punch Faust is when he finishes attacking you and slowly moves back north. If you see Faust moving fast, then don't bother punching because he is trying to throw you. He will eventually go back to punching or kicking. Then you can run up and nail him. It takes around 32 punches or so to win. For those readers who want to have some fun, if you use a Game Genie code to give yourself a gun (see section "Secrets and Codes" below), Faust will die with one shot. It is kind of funny to watch the leader of a crime organization go down so easily. You would think he would wear some bullet proof vests or something. Oh well. Congratulations on finishing the game and saving the President's daughter. My final score was 244,300 points. ============================================================================= IX.
